Questions
What are the Washington LMHC CEU requirements?
The Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH) asks LMHCs, LMFTs, and LICSWs for 32 hours of continuing education every two years, including 6 hours of ethics and law, 2 hours of professional roles and boundaries, and 2 hours of health equity every four years. The bundle is $69 for 36 CE hours.
Where can I get Washington ethics and law CE online?
Yes. It's self-study online: study guides with PDFs you keep, then a post-test, and your certificate by email when you pass the post-test and evaluation. Test access lasts 1 year from your purchase date.
Are these courses accepted for Washington LMHC, LMFT, and LICSW license renewal?
Yes. Accepted for Washington DOH license renewal. For Washington DOH LMHC CE, LMFT CE, and social work CE, the rule accepts distance learning programs “approved by an industry-recognized local, state, national or international organization or institution of higher learning” that “require tests of comprehension upon completion” (WAC 246-809-610(3)(b)). Our courses come from a CAMFT-approved provider (#10072759), and each one ends with a short online test. If you’re unsure, check with WA DOH.
How much does Washington LMHC CE cost online?
$69 for 36 CE hours in one bundle, enough for the 32 hours Washington LMHCs, LMFTs, LASWs, and LICSWs need every two years, or $9 or $19 per course. Prices we checked on Oct 30, 2026 for the annual or unlimited plans at four other online CE sites: Psychotherapy.net Essential $149, Aspira CE Unlimited $129.99, CE4Less Unlimited $89.99, and NetCE All Access $89. The bundle costs $80, $60.99, $20.99, and $20 less than those plans.
When does a Washington LMHC license renew?
Every year. Under WAC 246-809-990(1), “a license must be renewed every year on the practitioner’s birthday.” CE runs on a two-year cycle: 32 hours every two years (WAC 246-809-630(3)).
What are the Washington LICSW and LMFT CEU requirements?
The same 32 hours every two years as LMHCs. Washington defines a “licensed counselor” as “a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed mental health counselor, licensed advanced social worker, or licensed independent clinical social worker regulated under chapter 18.225 RCW” (WAC 246-809-010(4)), and WAC 246-809-630(3) sets the hours for every licensed counselor, including at least 6 in professional ethics and law, at least 2 in professional roles and boundaries, and at least 2 in health equity every four years.
Does Washington require suicide prevention training for LMHCs?
Yes. At least once every six years, LMFTs, LMHCs, LASWs, and LICSWs need at least six hours of training in suicide assessment, treatment, and management (WAC 246-809-630(3)(d)). If you’re unsure which trainings count, check with WA DOH.
Do Washington associates need CE?
Yes. “All licensed associates shall include six hours of CE in professional ethics and law every two years” (WAC 246-809-632(2)), and “All licensed associates shall complete a minimum of two hours in professional roles and boundaries” (WAC 246-809-632(3)). Washington Ethics and Law (6 hours) and Washington Professional Roles and Boundaries (2 hours) are sold on their own.

Washington rules
CE for Washington licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, advanced social workers, and independent clinical social workers.
Washington accepts distance learning programs “approved by an industry-recognized local, state, national or international organization” that end with a test of comprehension (WAC 246-809-610(3)(b)). The rule’s list of examples (WAC 246-809-620) is not limited to the groups it names, and CAMFT, a state therapist association, is not one of them. Our courses come from a CAMFT-approved provider, and each one ends with a short online test. If you’re unsure, check with WA DOH, the Washington State Department of Health.
Washington uses one set of CE rules for all four licenses. Its rules define a “licensed counselor” as “a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed mental health counselor, licensed advanced social worker, or licensed independent clinical social worker” (WAC 246-809-010(4)), and WAC 246-809-630(3) sets the hours for every licensed counselor: 32 hours every two years, including at least 6 in professional ethics and law, at least 2 in professional roles and boundaries, and at least 2 in health equity every four years. LMFTs, LMHCs, LASWs, and LICSWs also need 6 hours of suicide training at least once every six years (WAC 246-809-630(3)(d)). Associates follow WAC 246-809-632 instead.
