About this course
OBLPCT requires LPCs and LMFTs who supervise registered associates, including all licensees on the Supervisor Registry, to complete 3 clock hours of supervision-related training each reporting period (OAR 833-080-0011(2)(b)). This 6-hour self-study course covers supervisor competencies, starting a supervisory relationship, goal setting and evaluation, feedback and gatekeeping, the supervisory alliance and ruptures, dual relationships, culture and technology in supervision, supervision models, supervision records, and supervising high-risk cases.
The course you get is titled “Supervision: Texas 6-Hour Requirement to Continue Supervising (LPC-S, LMFT-S, LCSW-S)”. It was written for Texas supervisors, so three sections cover Texas rules, law, and Texas CE options. Oregon CE hours count only the six general supervision sections. This is renewal CE for current supervisors. It is not the 30-hour training required to become an approved supervisor.
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Name the competencies a clinical supervisor needs and the supervisor’s dual duty to the supervisee and to clients.
- Set up a supervisory relationship with an agreement, a baseline competence check, and a clear structure for each hour.
- Write observable supervision goals and give formative feedback, summative evaluation, and remediation plans.
- Build the supervisory alliance, notice and repair ruptures, and manage power, dual relationships, and digital boundaries.
- Address culture, power, practice setting, and technology in supervision.
- Compare developmental, discrimination, psychotherapy-based, and competency-based supervision models.
- Keep a supervision record, separate it from the clinical record, and supervise high-risk cases such as suicide risk and intimate partner violence.
